Helen Scholes

Helen Davenport Scholes is a Marietta native. She resides in West Cobb and has two sons, Matt and Bryan who live in Cobb County. A graduate of Sprayberry High School, Helen attended Kennesaw State Junior College, the Woodrow Wilson College of Law and the University of Michigan. A graduate fellow at the Institute of Court Management in Denver Colorado, Helen was appointed to Criminal Justice Coordinating Council as both member and Chairman by four different Georgia Governors.

Helen served fifteen years with the Georgia Department of Corrections in a variety of roles. As State Supervisor of Georgia Prisons and Director of Transitional Centers, she supervised 27 Institutions and Women Services, including the Women’s Prison. In addition, she served as Community Service Director, Director of Human Resources for the Georgia Administrative Office of the Courts and Director of Victim Service. She was awarded a Leadership and Service in Profession Award from the National Center for her role at the State Court and was honored by the Georgia Victims for Justice Association with an Appreciation for Service to Victims in Georgia. She was also the first woman president of the Marietta Civitan Club.

During her over thirty years of experience in the Real Estate field and in the Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement systems, she became the first female appointed to become Director of Cobb County Pretrial Court Services and was the first female in history to be appointed Executive Director of the Georgia Building Authority. As Executive Director of the Georgia Building Authority, Helen was responsible for the management and maintenance of 50 state buildings including the State Capital and Governors Mansion. These duties included asbestos removal, major renovations and the leasing of state owned office space. In addition, Helen successfully oversaw the transition of all GBA managed properties through the much anticipated Y2K Millennium conversion. As acting Director and Manager for State Security, she was in charge of numerous enhancements which included rewriting procedures, upgrading state security measures and modifying buildings as a result of the September 11th tragedy.

Combined with her expansive real estate and judicial experience at both the county and state levels, Helen’s addition to Manning Properties expands our expertise in property management and elevates our commitment to community involvement to a new level. We are pleased to have her serve any and all of your real estate needs.
